Pick 4 action is on tap again Thursday at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas, starting in race 6 and running through the end of the card, race 9.
The first leg is a one-mile maiden claiming event at the $12,500-$10,000 level. It is a well-bred group, with stallions such as Bodemeister, Uncle Mo, Bernardini, and Medaglia d’Oro represented. All 12 entrants are three or four years old, with a Nick Zito entry of #1 and #1A, Bet It All to Win and Everado set on the morning line at 9-2. #3 Lifesbeengoodsofar is a California transplant making his third start of the meet; he was fifth last out with a wide trip and bad break.
Race 7 for fillies and mares is a $12,500 waiver claiming race. There are 13 entries including the also eligibile #13 Sunset Cruise (7-2). Favored #12 Mrs Howell (5-2) is way on the outside and takes a class plummet for this. #10 Peachy was third here last out, which was her first start at Oaklawn after racing on the Southern California circuit. #8 Keene’s Desire (5-1) won two back, but that was in August. #3 Pleasure and Glory (6-1) has been in the superfecta in four of her last five starts.
Race 8 is the day’s feature, a six-furlong allowance for sophomore fillies. #7 Carrizo (6-5) is the morning line choice; she broke her maiden at Churchill Downs in September then just missed there going 6 ½ in November. She hasn’t run since, but #2 Peruvian Appeal was third that day and is 5-1 here. #4 Midnight Karma (15-1) is a longshot but broke her maiden by 12 legnths at Delaware Park in August. She has since been sixth and seventh at Keeneland and Churchill Downs.
Rounding out the day is Race 9, a one-mile allowance for older males and geldings. #1 Gray Sky (6-1) was second over this trip last out, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of an 84. He has been on the board here in 7 of 14 tries. #5 New Colossus (7-5) won last out over this trip by 10 ¼ lengths. The $400,000 son of Curlin has gone favored in all seven of his starts, with just the one win. #7 Shining Knight (3-1) has been first, second, or third in all three of his starts and is trained by Brad Cox.
First post on Thursday is 1:30pm local time.
