Gulfstream Park has three stakes races on tap for Saturday, headlined by the $100,000 Hal’s Hope Stakes (G3) which goes as race 11. The race has drawn a solid field of nine, with trainer Todd Pletcher sending out two.
The first is #7 Copper Town, a five-year-old with just six lifetime starts. The son of Speightstown has won three of those starts, but has finished eighth and seventh in his only two stakes starts. He has had bad breaks in two of his last three, and acted up at the gate last out.
#9 Prince Lucky won three of four in 2017 as a juvenile, and after three disappointing starts in 2018 put it all together to win the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont on the Belmont Stakes undercard. He has not raced since, but retains jockey John Velaquez, who has also won on Copper Town.
#8 Sir Anthony won the Harlan’s Holiday Stakes (G3) here last out; that was December 15. That was a tad longer than this one-mile distance at 1 1/16 miles, but this guy is also riding quite the win streak and seeks number five in a row.
#5 Quip was one of the top sophomores last year, and last raced in the Arkansas Derby (G1), where he was second, and the Preakness Stakes (G1), where he was eighth. The Rudolphe Brisset-trainee hasn’t raced since, but worked a four-furlong bullet at Payson Park on Feburary 10 in preparation for this.
#3 Breaking Lucky is a seven-year-old making his 27thlifetime start. The son of Lookin At Lucky only ran three times last year, but completed the season with an 8 ¼ length romp in an allowance. He was second in the Fred W. Hooper (G3) here over this trip on January 26. The hard-knocking millionaire has finished top three 16 times.
#2 Fellowship doesn’t win often, but he loves this track. The six-year-old has been top three in seven of 10 starts here. He was third behind Aztec Sense, who isn’t here, and Breaking Lucky in the Fred Hooper last out.
Post time for the 13-race card is noon Eastern.
