Two Stakes on Aqueduct’s Saturday Card

By Emily Shields

A classy field has been assembled for the $200,000 Top Flight Invitational at Aqueduct on Saturday, a 1 1/8 mile race for older fillies and mares which goes as Race 8.

#5 My Miss Lilly (7-2) makes the second start of her comeback. She won a grade 2 over this trip a year ago, then ran off the board in the Kentucky Oaks and third in the Mother Goose (G2) before going to the sidelines. She did not race from June 30 until February 15 of this year, where she finished third going a mile at Gulfstream. The well-bred daughter of Tapit is trained by Mark Hennig; Joe Bravo will be up.

#6 Forever Liesl (2-1) was a stakes winner over this trip two back, and has never been worse than third in five starts here. #4 Frostie Anne (5-2), who is also entered on Sunday, will be making her 14thstart here; she has finished top three 11 times. She is coming off an impressive allowance win on March 1. #3 Jump Ruler (9-2) was also a winner here over a mile on March 8 and rounds out the logical contenders. The daughter of Roman Ruler also loves the course, being top three in eight of nine starts.

Earlier on the card – Race 3 – is the $100,000 Bridgetown on the outer turf course. The six furlong grass race is for sophomore colts, and features #1 Regally Irish (8-5), a winner on the grass over a mile at Tampa Bay Downs in January. He hasn’t run since, and cuts back in distance today. #2 Wonder Stone (7-2) is a filly taking on the boys, which is the norm for trainer Wesley Ward; Wonder Stone has won two of three starts but has never raced on grass. #3 Skole (5-2) has won two in a row; the gelded son of Oasis Dream (GB) has a lot of speed and figures to go to the front. #4 Mount Travers (3-1) cuts back from two straight mile races on the dirt for trainer Linda Rice.

The nine-race card begins at 1:30pm Eastern.
