Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan: THUNDER SNOW was my 2017 Kentucky Derby (G1) selection (at odds of 16/1) and he was eased out of the starting gate. Fast forward 11 months and THUNDER SNOW ($22.40) is not my Dubai World Cup (G1) selection. As they say, timing in life is everything!
UAE Derby (G2) at Meydan: MENDELSSOHN ($5.60) is a serious racehorse, not only because he is BEHOLDER’s half-brother, but also because this was his third win on three continents in just his eighth lifetime start. Could he be the real deal come the first Saturday in May? Only time will tell.
Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) at Gulfstream Park: Somewhat surprised that COACH ROCKS only paid $7.60 to win as my pre-race conclusion about her stated “siding with others.” I guess the majority of players saw something I obviously missed.
Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park: On a day where I didn’t catch one winner, this (non) play might go down as the bonehead move of the year as I had AUDIBLE ($5.20) as my top selection and HOFBURG as my longshot value play, yet didn’t hook them up in an exacta, leaving $25.40 on the table for every $1 wagered. Wow!
