Del Mar Debutante (G1) at Del Mar: Despite posting the top two-year-old Beyer Speed Figure (94) when she won the G2 Sorrento on August 5th, I was still not a believer in BELLAFINA ($6.60) in this race (primarily because of the added distance) and I paid the price by losing all my recommended wagers.
John C. Mabee (G2) at Del Mar: Had the top one-two finishers (VASILIKA, $10.40) in this race clearly identified, but unfortunately put all my eggs in the CAMBODIA basket by keying her (on top) in all of my recommended wagers.
Woodward (G1) at Saratoga: Another solid analysis followed by poor wagering strategy as I identified YOSHIDA ($14.40) as my longshot value play with the commentary “if Mott thinks he can dirt, then who am I to argue.”
Spinaway (G1) at Saratoga: Make it a clean sweep, as this was the fourth and final race where I didn’t cash a ticket, but it did provide a very useful handicapping lesson in that it is always dangerous to take a short price on any two-year-old, no matter how talented, simply because they are so young both mentally and physically, and SIPPICAN HARBOR ($34.00) proved that here once again.
